DO YOU WANT TO SUCCEED?
In June, I asked my graduating historians to give some words of wisdom to their successors. Here are a few tidbits of advice from last year's students.
In order to succeed in 8th Grade American History ...
"Take advantage of extra help - it helps!"
"Do a good job the first time so you don't have to fix it."
"Anything that's 'due with your ISN', do it as assigned, or it will pile up for the ISN due date."
"Take advantage of Mr. T's extra credit opportunities."
"In your textbook, read those little pictures and captions outside the text. Taft likes to use those for EC questions."
"Respect your fellow historians."
"Finish your homework before you get to school."
"On group projects, always make sure you contribute."
"You must work hard."
"Know that 'it's always 2'."
"Come to class with an open mind."
"Listen to Mr. Taft and tell him 'history rules' a lot."
"Speak up."
Br ready for random notebook checks. Even though it may seem like a small thing, if you get a zero it does lower your grade."
"Have a sense of humor!"
"Always get work in on time since you will do it eventually."
"Use common sense - when Mr. Taft says "due", he means "due"."
"Don't save everything til the last minute - if you do, ISNs and study guides will not be fun."
"Have fun and enjoy American History"
"Use reviews on the website for tests and quizzes."
"Listen to what Mr. Taft says - he tells you a lot of the quiz questions while he is talking."
"Get into it and give it all you got - especially during debates. Mr. T is always watching!"
"Don't lie - Taft will know."
"Love American History!"
"Review for about 10 minutes each night."
"You can't just memorize - you must understand!"
"When taking in another role, get into it and have fun. We learn a lot by becoming 'faces of the past'."
"Raise your hands with comments and questions."
"Watch movies. It's fun, easy, and it's something I realize I should have done."
"Don't get caught in Mr. Taft's doghouse. It's short but quite painful."
