The counseling program is designed to help students reach
their full potential. The school
counselors are available to help students work through the challenges that they
face as they move through Middle School. Academic issues that the counseling program
deals with include stress, academic pressure, test anxiety, motivation, academic goal-setting,
organizational skills, and study strategies.
Other issues that the counselors help students
work through include peer relationships, depression, family conflicts, drug and alcohol abuse, eating
disorders, illness, grief and loss, and coping with change. Assessment, short-term counseling, support
groups, and referral services are available through the school’s two counselors.

Students can seek the help of the counselors voluntarily or can be referred by a faculty
member or parent. Parents of Middle School students will be notified if the student is
referred to the counselor.
Confidentiality will be maintained at the discretion of the counselor except in cases
involving life-threatening situations (i.e. verbalized suicidal thoughts, physical abuse,
serious potential of injury to another person, etc.). |
