Concert Attendance Policy

Concerts are the showcase of all our hard work, and therefore are mandatory.  Even one student missing from a performance impacts the quality of the whole.  There is no “bench”; every voice makes a difference!

If a student cannot attend a performance, written notice PRIOR TO ONE WEEK OF THE CONCERT is necessary to excuse a student.  Late notice, except for emergencies, will result in an unexcused absence.  Students who are not in school that day because of illness are excused.  A conflict with another event, such as a sports practice, will not necessarily constitute an excused absence from a performance.  These types of “gray areas” must be discussed between parents and Ms. Altman to determine whether or not the absence will be excused.

Unexcused absences result in a failing concert grade.  Concert attendance is 30% of the entire grade.

Students excused from a performance will be expected to complete a project in lieu of attending the event.  It is not a replacement for the learning and growth that only takes place during public performances, but can still provide a valuable experience.

Ms. Altman will contact the student once approving the excused absence, give him or her a variety of project options and together agree upon a reasonable due date.
