How to Put a File in a
Drop Box:
1.
1. Save the file to your own
disk or network account first. This is important!
2.
2. You need to open up 2
windows – one window shows your file. The other shows your teacher’s drop box.
- to open the one that shows your file, you may need to
open My Computer, then the I: drive, then your user folder, etc.
- to open the one that shows your teacher’s drop box,
open My Computer, then the J: drive, then the department folder, then your
teacher’s folder. Don’t open the drop box folder. (You can’t even if
you try). Just be able to see it.
3.
3. You may have to close
some unnecessary folders by clicking the X button in the top right-hand corner.
You may have to move some windows, by dragging their title bar around.
You may have to resize some windows, by dragging an edge of the window
up, down, or to the side.
4.
4. Now, drag the file on top
of the drop box folder, and let go. (This will make a copy in the drop
box, and leave your original on your disk or network account.)
Special Notes:
- Once you put a file in the drop box, you won’t be able
to see it, or change it, or delete it.
- Only one file with any name can go in the drop box.
So, if someone else used your file name, the copy won’t work. If you try to
put a second copy in with the same file name it won’t work. In either case,
you will need to rename the file then try again. To rename a file, right
click it, choose “Rename” from the menu, then type in a new name.
- Don’t ever save it to the drop box using File,
Save As. This won’t work. What is does is to save an empty file,
with your file name, in the drop box folder. This uses up that file name,
but doesn’t hand in your assignment.
